Lean Hypochlorite Solution (L.H.S.)

Lean Hypochlorite Solution (L.H.S.) is a mixture in water of sodium chloride and sodium hypochlorite, extensively used as disinfectant and biocyde, instead of other chemicals which are more expensive and can lead to noxious side effects.
In fact, sodium hypochlorite, in contact with organic substances, decomposes into inert sodium chloride and active oxygen : the last is responsible for the destruction of all microorganisms present in the treated water.

In particular, qualifying characteristics of L.H.S. are its low toxicity, deodorizing power and long-lasting effects.

However, should the L.H.S. be added in excess of the needed quantity, the remaining product is slowly decomposed by heat, UV light and metallic ions.

Moreover, its safe handling and durable storage characteristic render this product very apt for everyday use, both in household and in industrial fields.

It is worthwhile to note that, although there are in the market different brands of L.S.H., the product made with SESPI electrolyzer is by far more economical, being its concentration nearly to 14,000 ppm - 15,000ppm (14-15 gr/l), last figure being far larger than the one presently available on the open market.

This feature renders packaging and distribution more economical.

Among the wide range of applications of L.H.S., the following should be noted :

  •  drinking water sterilization
  •  pharmaceutical industry
  •  hospital disinfection
  •  home disinfection
  •  vegetables disinfection
  •  pool disinfection
  •  sewage disinfection

Chloropure L.H.S.® Electrolyzer by SESPI

The electrolyzer CHLOROPURE L.H.S.® by SESPI consits of a set of bipolar electrodes in the form of blades arranged to constitute a series of cells enclosed in a highly resistant electrical insulating horizontal shell.
Anodes are of a ceramic noble metal coating on a titanium structure.
The high mechanical stability of the blade shaped electrodes, which are coated on both sides, and the electrolyzer structure, make the assembling, disassembling and maintenance of the cell extremely simple.
A uniform flow of the electrolyte through the electrodes assembly, where hydrogen separation occurs in each cell of the electrolyzer, promotes the desired reactions, optimizing the process efficiency and reducing cell voltage.

Advantages of Chloropure L.H.S.® Electrolyzer by SESPI

The direct production of the L.H.S. by electrolysis of sodium chloride solution is mainly carried out today, for this purpose, using graphite electrodes in a dedicated electrolyser.
The use of the graphite results in the formation of sludges due to the slow wreckage of such a material during continuos operation.

With old graphite electrodes it was absolutely necessary :

  •  to filter the L.H.S. solution;
  •  to disassemble periodically the electrolyzers for draining the sludges from the electrolyser bottom;
  •  to replace the electrodes periodically (every 3-6 months);
  •  to carry out carefully the dismantling of the electrolyzer for avoiding the damage of the cooling system made of pipes

SESPI electrolyser CHLOROPURE L.H.S.® with activated titanium electrodes, does not require periodical dismantling as the stabilized electrodes do not release any metallic component.

  •  As a consequence it is not requested the L.H.S. settling and the filtration of the solution.
  •  The coated electrodes estimated duration is 5 years, the maintenance is low and the productivity higher in comparison with the graphite electrodes.
  •  The titanium activated electrodes allow also a better current density across them with reduced dimensions.
  •  The new electrolyser made by SESPI allows a small and compact construction of the equipment with high efficiency.

Typical Plant for the generation of L.H.S. from FOOD GRADE SALT

A NaCl brine is prepared by dissolving the salt in the saturator with deionized water. Then ricirculation pump assures the saturation of the brine. A stream of the concentrated brine is then mixed with fresh water in order to obtain the solution which is fed to the electrolyzer CHLOROPURE L.H.S.®.
In the electrolyzer are located the stabilized electrodes and the cooling system.
A transformer/rectifier provides the electric current charge for the electrolysis of the solution and the L.H.S. production.
The L.H.S. solution is then discharged to the surge tank and, with a pump, collected into the receiver tank, ready for the users.
